Position Overview
We are seeking an Editorial Assistant to support the Publisher and Editorial Director across the Portfolio, Sentinel, and Thesis imprints. This role will involve administrative and editorial responsibilities to help produce high-quality nonfiction. We provide training, mentorship, and a vibrant community of editors, authors, and agents to help you grow in your publishing career.
Responsibilities
- Support publisher and editorial director in daily operations.
- Draft materials, including blurb requests, flap copy, editorial memos, and more.
- Track contracts, deadlines, manuscripts, and other publication materials.
- Evaluate submissions and provide feedback within 48 hours.
- Review manuscripts, provide line edits, and guide them through production.
- Manage data and databases related to acquisitions, sales, and freelancers.
- Organize key imprint activities like seasonal sales meetings and strategy sessions.
- Independently take editorial ownership of 1-3 titles annually.
- Collaborate with marketing, publicity, rights, production, and design teams.
- Schedule meetings and handle expense reports.
- Perform additional support tasks as needed.
Requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to multitask.
- Ability to manage multiple projects with deadlines.
- Independent problem-solving and initiative.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Google Docs.
- Prior experience in publishing is a plus, but not required.
