Job Description/Overview:
The mechatronics engineer’s responsibilities will include improving existing mechanical systems, developing new product concepts and prototypes, designing and testing mechanical and electrical systems, and developing various automated systems. As a mechatronics engineer, you should be able to develop original, practical solutions to problems, have the ability to draw on a wide range of engineering principles, and not be afraid to wander into uncharted territory.

This role will initially be 70% electrical and 30% mechanical so we are looking for someone with an electrical background
Key Responsibilities
- Design and fabricate and develop electrical & mechanical prototypes & systems including performing design calculations for systems (High pressure gas systems, valves and components for alternative fuels).
- This role will involve designing, building/modifying, developing and testing of electromechanical systems, both for marine projects, and also industrial gas compressors, prototype test apparatus and gas pressure reduction systems (PRS), HMI Interfaces and PLC controls.
- Working on batteries, battery management systems, PLC controls, CANbus communications and integration of the various subsystems
- Understand mechanical and electromechanical principles and their application.
- Working knowledge of electrical and electronic systems circuits, sensors / actuators and signal processing – hand-on wiring of both power and control systems and panels
- Knowledge of computer hardware / software design and knowledge of automated control systems
- Familiar with CAD / drafting software
- Knowledge of test equipment procedures and test methodologies, keeping an accurate log of all testing and all documentation.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly & effectively.
Qualifications needed
- Mechatronics Engineering degree (honours preferred) -Ideally, we are looking for someone with an industrial/ marine/aerospace/automation or automotive background.
- 2-5 years industry experience (at least 2 yrs hands-on experience)
- Strong understanding of CANbus communication protocol
- Experience programming in a common language e.g. C++
- Troubleshooting skills
- Some mechanical experience, material properties, fabrication techniques
- 3D CAD drafting experience
Experience:
EXTRA BONUS POINTS IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING EXPEREINCE IN
- Any experience in programming and design using CoDeSys, PLC, HMI
- High voltage DC /Mains voltage experience, circuit design or component selection
- Machining experience, lathes/mills etc
