Head Chef
Location: Punga Cove, Marlborough Sounds (Christchurch, Canterbury)
Employer : Marlborough’s largest tour
Salary: $80,000 – $90,000 per annum (experience dependent)
About Our Client
Marlborough’s largest tour operator is seeking a dynamic, creative, and driven Head Chef for their Lodge at Punga Cove. Situated on the famous Queen Charlotte Track, this locally owned Lodge offers a range of accommodation and dining options in the beautiful Marlborough Sounds. They are committed to delivering exceptional customer service and showcasing the best of the Marlborough region.
Role & Key Responsibilities
Role Overview:
– Lead the kitchen team to elevate the quality of the Restaurant and Café Bar offerings across breakfast, lunch, and dinner services.
– Work onsite in the Marlborough Sounds, suitable for a single person or couple who enjoy the outdoors and a wholesome, nature-driven lifestyle.
Key Responsibilities:
– At least 2 years of experience as a Head Chef or Senior Sous Chef in a premium restaurant, hotel, or lodge environment.
– Demonstrate commercial and financial acumen, with a thorough understanding of food cost and labor control in a seasonal destination.
– Effectively lead, train, and develop the kitchen team.
– Foster a high-performing and cohesive culture among the kitchen and front-of-house teams.
– Collaborate with the Lodge Manager to deliver a first-class dining experience and create menus that showcase Marlborough’s local ingredients.
– Adhere to all health and safety requirements, ensuring the safety of guests and team members with immediate reporting of any incidents or concerns.
– Provide exceptional customer service, with attention to personal presentation.
– Maintain necessary stock for meal services and ensure proper storage of fresh products and other food items.
– Keep a clean and tidy station/kitchen at all times.
Skills & Experience Required
– Minimum of 2 years’ experience at Senior Sous Chef or Head Chef level.
– Respected and participative team player with a willingness to assist and support others as required.
– Excellent work ethic and commitment to health and safety.
– Ability to lead, develop, and mentor a team of chefs and kitchen hands, fostering an environment of inclusiveness and collaboration.
– Experience in providing on-the-job training to ensure all kitchen staff perform at their best.
