Head Chef
Location: Queenstown, Otago
Employer: Artisan Catering
– Hours: Minimum guaranteed 30+ hours per week.
– Heavy Lifting: Required on event days for packing and unpacking with the catering truck.
– Salary: $34 – $38 per hour.
About the Role
Artisan Catering is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head Chef to join our team. With the potential for a buy-in opportunity and an Executive Chef position for the right candidate, this role is ideal for someone with over 5 years of experience in a Head Chef role and a proven track record of delivering quality food at high standards. A background in event catering or experience in a fast-paced restaurant handling large numbers is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
– Menu Development: Create and execute innovative menus.
– Leadership: Manage the kitchen team effectively and lead by example.
– Adaptability: Be flexible and a practical problem solver.
– Team Player: Assist other departments when necessary.
– Driver Duties: Drive a small chiller truck; a full car license and confident driving skills are essential.
– Training: Train kitchen staff on dishes and event preparations.
– Communication: Maintain clear communication with managers, staff, suppliers, clients, and hire companies.
– Work Balance: Enjoy a good work-life balance with prep shifts from 9 am to 5 pm and event shifts in the afternoons/nights (2 events per week). No split shifts or split days off, with consecutive days off offered.
Requirements
– Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Head Chef role.
– Proven track record of delivering quality food at high standards.
– Experience in event catering or fast-paced restaurant environment.
– Strong leadership skills and ability to manage a kitchen team.
– Flexibility and practical problem-solving skills.
– Team player willing to help other departments.
– Full New Zealand driver’s license and confident driving skills.
– Clear English communication skills.
– Reliable, hardworking, and honest.
– Must be in New Zealand and legally able to work with a current work visa.
