The Opportunity
We are seeking a Social Worker in Schools (SWIS) to join our dedicated team. This fixed-term role covers a 12-month paternity leave period, starting in January 2025. Based in a local school, you will work directly with children, teens, and their whānau, providing early intervention and preventive social work services to foster positive, lasting change.
Using a strengths-based, multi-systemic approach, you will handle a diverse caseload that includes individual and group work, contributing to the wellbeing of the school community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional social work services to vulnerable children, teens, and their families in a school setting.
- Engage in early intervention and prevention strategies to encourage positive outcomes.
- Work collaboratively with schools, whānau, and colleagues to support children’s wellbeing.
- Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to practice requirements.
- Deliver individual and group work, using a strengths-based approach.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- A tertiary degree in Social Work.
- Registration with the Social Workers Registration Board.
- A full, clean NZ driver licence and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Experience in social work, preferably in a school setting.
- Advanced interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- A strong understanding of Tikanga Māori and a commitment to working with Tangata Whenua.
- Confidence in meeting KPIs, maintaining professional boundaries, and adhering to practice standards.
