Position Overview:
We are seeking a Patient Access Representative to join our Emergency Department team. This role is responsible for greeting patients, completing registration, and processing admissions for emergency care. You will be responsible for verifying patient information, insurance, and financial responsibilities while ensuring excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment. This position requires working from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM with rotating weekends.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet patients and guests courteously, whether in person or via phone.
- Assist with scheduling appointments and processing admissions for emergency patients.
- Verify and accurately input patient demographic and financial information.
- Collect co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay amounts during the check-in process.
- Perform financial analysis and inform patients of their financial responsibilities.
- Balance the cash drawer daily, prepare deposit slips, and follow closing procedures at the end of the shift.
- Address and resolve patient concerns professionally and in accordance with company policies.
- Cross-train to assist in various roles across patient and payer types.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with all patient privacy regulations.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED (required).
- One year of experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, or customer service role.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree (preferred).
- Certification in Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM), Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA), or as a Medical Assistant (preferred).
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency with computer systems for data entry and information retrieval.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits, billing, and payor guidelines.
- Ability to handle high-stress situations with professionalism and attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively across teams and departments.
Physical and Environmental Demands:
- Primarily sedentary work, with occasional walking and standing.
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous medications in a healthcare setting.
