Position Overview:
We are seeking a Patient Access Representative for our Surgery department. This role involves greeting patients, ensuring accurate registration, and providing excellent customer service while processing patients for surgery. You will assist in verifying patient insurance, collecting payments, and maintaining accurate patient records in a high-paced environment. This position offers an early shift from 4:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet patients and guests courteously, whether in person or via telephone.
- Assist in scheduling appointments, registrations, or admissions for surgery patients.
- Verify and input patient identification, demographic, and financial information accurately.
- Collect co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay amounts at the point of service.
- Perform financial analysis and communicate patients’ financial responsibilities.
- Balance cash drawer daily and prepare deposit slips at the end of the shift.
- Address patient inquiries and concerns while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Adhere to healthcare regulations, ensuring compliance with insurance, authorization, and billing processes.
- Cross-train and provide support across multiple functions as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED (required).
- One year of experience in a hospital, clinic, medical office, or related customer service role.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree (preferred).
- Certification as a Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM), Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA), or Medical Assistant (preferred).
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient with computer systems for data entry and retrieval.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, time management, and conflict resolution skills.
- Knowledge of healthcare insurance benefits, payor guidelines, and billing regulations.
- Ability to work in high-stress situations with professionalism and attention to detail.
Physical and Environmental Demands:
- Primarily sedentary work, with occasional need to stand or walk.
- Requires the ability to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
- Occasional exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous medications in a healthcare setting.
