Job Description/Overview
Cardiff University is looking for a dedicated and reliable Kitchen Porter to join its Catering, Conferencing, and Events team. This role is vital for maintaining the cleanliness and efficiency of the kitchen environment, supporting food delivery, and assisting with food storage and deliveries. This is a full-time, permanent position, offering 35 hours per week.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen, including fridges, work surfaces, sinks, and basins.
Load and empty the dishwasher, keeping the pot wash area organized and clean.
Clean kitchen equipment, utensils, crockery, cutlery, and glassware.
Sweep and mop kitchen floors, dry stores, and refrigeration areas.
Assist with food delivery and safe storage of stock.
Monitor food temperature and comply with food safety policies.
Ensure kitchen equipment is properly cared for and report any defects.
Participate in training sessions and assist with food temperature control monitoring.
Abide by health and safety policies and university procedures.
Qualifications
Experience using a dishwasher in a busy commercial kitchen environment.
Ability to work in a team and follow instructions efficiently.
Basic literacy and numeracy skills for record keeping.
Physical fitness for lifting, carrying, and performing cleaning tasks.
Experience
Experience in a commercial catering/kitchen environment.
Experience in performing cleaning duties in a fast-paced environment.
Skills
Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask.
Good timekeeping and ability to manage duties within tight schedules.
Pleasant and welcoming demeanor with good communication skills.
Ability to follow health and safety standards.
Desirable Criteria
Knowledge of stock control and food storage practices.
Level 2 Food Safety or willingness to undertake training.
Experience using email and internet-based applications.
Ability to speak Welsh or willingness to learn.
