Job Description/Overview

Cardiff University is seeking a Kitchen Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of their Catering, Conferencing, and Events team. This role will be responsible for managing meal preparation and delivery, ensuring food safety compliance, stock control, financial management, and supervising a kitchen team. The role requires leadership to maintain high standards of food service, customer experience, and operational efficiency across the University’s hospitality services.

Key Responsibilities

Manage daily kitchen operations, ensuring food preparation, cooking, and delivery meet high standards.

Supervise and lead kitchen staff, ensuring adherence to food safety, allergen legislation, and health and safety policies.

Participate in menu planning, budgeting, stock control, and ordering supplies.

Oversee kitchen staff rotas and manage the deployment of resources across events.

Work closely with the Executive Head Chef to plan menus and ensure cost-effective operations.

Maintain a positive, productive working environment and contribute to team development.

Qualifications

Proven track record in kitchen management, food preparation, and presentation.

Experience in menu planning, budgeting, and stock control.

City & Guilds 706 1/2 or NVQ (or equivalent) in catering or related field.

Level 3 Food Safety and Level 2 Health and Safety qualifications.

Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

Experience

Previous experience in a busy kitchen or restaurant environment.

Proven ability to lead a team and manage kitchen operations independently.

Familiarity with allergen legislation, food safety, and nutrition standards.

Skills

Ability to manage budgets, control costs, and maintain inventory.

Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

Ability to communicate effectively and delegate tasks to staff.

Competence with computer and IT systems (e.g., Microsoft Office, Oracle).

Additional Information

Full-time, open-ended position with a salary range of £27,344 to £30,505 per annum.

35 hours per week, with flexible working hours that may include evenings and weekends.
