Job Description/Overview
Polygon is seeking a creative and opinionated Games Writer to contribute to its core gaming coverage. The role involves writing and laying out stories, including news coverage, opinion, criticism, and features. The writer will collaborate with editors and other teams, pitch ideas, and engage with the gaming community to provide insightful and engaging content.
Key Responsibilities
– Content Creation: Write and lay out both short-form and long-form stories for the Games team.
– Editorial Collaboration: Work with the Games Editor and other stakeholders to develop recurring coverage and long-term features.
– Coverage Planning: Maintain an editorial calendar for reactive and news-driven writing.
– Gaming Analysis: Play and analyse games for potential reporting and storytelling.
– Cross-Functional Work: Collaborate with other teams on high-priority projects and attend brainstorming sessions.
– Public Appearances: Occasionally represent Polygon in media panels and events.
– Voice Development: Contribute to refining and enforcing Polygon’s editorial voice and mission.
Qualifications
– Experience: Demonstrated ability to write and produce engaging gaming content.
– Skills: Strong storytelling skills with an understanding of video games and broader culture.
– Tools: Familiarity with modern newsroom strategies and tools.
– Collaboration: Ability to work with various teams and adapt to changing trends.
Experience
– Relevant experience in gaming journalism or a similar field is required.
Skills
– Skilled in pitching ideas, writing, and delivering content on deadline.
– Knowledge of modern gaming trends and cultural contexts.
