Job Description/Overview:
CDM Smith is seeking a motivated Construction Specialist 1 to join our team in Fairfax. This role is ideal for new graduates looking to enter the construction industry. You will be involved in various phases of construction projects, from document review and cost estimation to on-site administration and project close-out. The role includes assisting in project planning, managing site activities, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
– Assist in reviewing construction documents and preparing deliverables
– Participate in pre-bid site visits and develop preliminary schedules
– Evaluate project costs by analyzing proposals and researching labor and material costs
– Coordinate with project teams, subcontractors, and clients to ensure timely project completion
– Manage the timely arrival and installation of materials and equipment
– Prepare and review construction submittals, issue documents to field crews, and respond to RFIs
– Supervise project activities, ensuring adherence to specifications and drawings
– Conduct inspections and maintain Quality Control (QC) reporting
– Collaborate with Health and Safety professionals to evaluate subcontractor performance
– Assist in project close-out, including final inspections, punch lists, and client satisfaction
Qualifications needed:
– Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline
– Civil or Mechanical Engineering degree preferred
Experience:

Skills:
– Basic computation skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
– Good verbal and written communication skills
– Proficiency in using technology related to engineering and construction projects
– Ability to read and interpret construction documents and drawings
