What Will Your Job Look Like?
The Assistant General Manager, Safety is responsible for the overall direction and administration of safety for the Austin locations.
Responsibilities include
planning, organizing, and directing the short and long-term goals of the safety division to support the location’s mission and goals.
This position will ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations, as well as corporate and client guidelines and policies. This role will oversee the Austin region.
Note:
This position is contingent upon contract award and will be based in Austin, TX.
- Manage Safety Culture: Incorporate various departments, such as operations, safety, and maintenance, into a culture of safety.
- Direct Reports: Provide daily guidance, development, and performance management for all direct reports.
- Safety Programs: Oversee corporate safety incentives and programs, including the assignment of Safety Points.
- Safety Management System: Implement and support the company and client’s Safety Management System (SMS) safety plan and initiatives.
- Continuous Support: Provide continuous safety support for both Austin locations.
- Compliance Monitoring: Manage and monitor the FTA’s drug and alcohol DAMIS reporting requirements.
- Insurance Claims: Monitor and support all location insurance claims activities to ensure effective communication with claimants, help control claims costs, and support claims closure.
- Committees: Lead and support the local safety committee and SMS Ambassador group for the Austin area.
- Workers’ Compensation: Oversee the locations’ worker compensation program to ensure compliance and effectively reduce/eliminate claims.
- Documentation: Ensure all safety manuals, programs, policies, and practices are current and meet the needs of the operating divisions; update as necessary.
- Audits: Oversee the successful completion of all related audits, including those conducted by the company, the client, internal staff members, and state and federal regulatory agencies.
- Incident Review: Review, determine, and respond to all vehicular, passenger, and employee accidents/incidents, indicating the cause and preventability, and identifying potential trends for future training efforts.
- Expertise in Hiring: Provide functional expertise in safety regarding the hiring of safety department employees.
- Safety Meetings: Collaborate with local leadership to deliver comprehensive safety meetings and plans.
- Drug Program Management: Act as the location drug program manager, ensuring compliance with FTA/DOT regulations.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need
– Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in a related field preferred.
– Experience: At least 6 years of managing Safety in the Para-Transit industry (7 years preferred), 4 years of professional facilitation experience in a safety training role, 4 years of experience managing a union environment, and 3 years of supervising and monitoring the delivery of contractual services.
– Certification: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
– Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of all applicable safety rules and regulations – ADA, FTA, and DOT, including all corporate programs.
– License: Valid driver’s license required.
– Physical: Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and DOT physical and maintain physical throughout employment.

– Ability to work independently and objectively.
– Strong organizational and analytical skills.
– Ability to effectively delegate tasks and provide appropriate supervision and follow-up to department staff.
– Familiarity with Windows-based computer operating systems and Microsoft Office packages.
– Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
– Regular attendance is required.

Salary Range:
– Min Wage: $100K
– Max Wage: $115K
