  • Document screening results: End of January.

  • Interviews: February (held in Tokyo or via video call, in Japanese).

  • Final results announced: March.

Successful candidates begin receiving funding from the start of their graduate program.

Required Documents

Applicants must prepare and submit the following through the HISF online system:

  • A recent passport-style photo.

  • A 2-minute video presentation outlining their research plan.

  • Academic transcripts (undergraduate and graduate, if available).

  • A detailed research proposal (written in Japanese; an English version may be attached).

  • Recommendation letter from a supervisor or professor.
