Role Overview:
Fastly is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Edge Application Engineering team. In this role, you will primarily focus on the Fanout product, developing, maintaining, and enhancing features in Rust and C++. You will ensure the highest standards of quality, reliability, and user experience for Fastly’s Edge Applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, test, and maintain features in Rust for Fastly’s Edge products.
- Design and implement new product features based on customer feedback and industry best practices.
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve issues to ensure high-quality customer experiences.
- Collaborate with cloud engineers, product managers, and customer support to address user requirements and product challenges.
- Create and maintain product documentation, including usage guides, best practices, and troubleshooting resources.
Qualifications:
Required:
- At least 2 years of experience with system programming languages (Rust, C/C++, Go).
- At least 1 year of experience working with large-scale systems.
- Strong skills in designing clear, concise technical solutions.
- Experience troubleshooting and resolving issues directly with customer support teams or end-users.
Preferred:
- Experience with cloud/serverless platforms.
- Familiarity with publish/subscribe messaging systems.
- Knowledge of web/proxy server development and distributed networking systems.
- Understanding of protocols like HTTP, WebSockets, gRPC.
- Contributions to open-source projects or experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
- Expertise in software testing frameworks and code coverage tools.
Work Hours and Location:
- Core business hours with occasional on-call support during nights and weekends.
- Flexible hybrid and remote work options, with a strong preference for candidates near Fastly’s office locations (San Francisco, Denver, New York).
- Occasional travel may be required.
