About the Position:
Johns Hopkins University is seeking a CO Coding Specialist to join their team remotely. The specialist will be responsible for coding diagnoses and CPT procedures within various department billing offices. This includes reviewing or coding charges for diagnosis and CPT for entry into the billing applications used by Johns Hopkins Medicine (JHM) and Johns Hopkins University (JHU). The position involves ensuring accurate and compliant billing processes for services performed at JHM practice sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Verify and gather information to ensure clean claims, following payer and contract guidelines.
- Review and resolve discrepancies between POS and CPT codes.
- Verify E/M code types and service levels (New vs. Established patients).
- Maintain billing accuracy by verifying encounters, medical records, and schedules in the EPIC system.
- Follow payer and coding guidelines, ensuring compliance with ICD-10 and CPT standards.
- Research and respond to coding questions from physicians, patients, and co-workers.
- Perform daily reviews of EPIC Charge Review edits.
- Use online resources to facilitate efficient claims processing and ensure accurate coding.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient PHI protection.
- Strong working knowledge of JHU/PBS Billing Applications.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and CPT/ICD-10 coding.
- Ability to work independently, exercise judgment, and ensure billing accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Required: High school diploma or GED.
- Certification: CPC (Certified Professional Coder) or department-approved certification.
- Experience: Minimum one year of related experience in medical billing with demonstrated analytical skills.
- Preferred: Experience with EPIC; understanding of third-party payer issues.
Work Schedule:
- Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM.
Compensation:
- Starting Salary: $18.20 – $36.90 per hour (commensurate with experience).
- Annual Salary: Targeted $55,000.
