Position Overview
We are seeking creative, enthusiastic freelance writers with a strong passion for food, cooking, and dining content. Ideal candidates should have at least three years of writing experience focused on food-related content for print or web. This is a remote contract position with flexible hours and a steady workflow.
Key Responsibilities
- Claim feature article topics from a selection of assignments.
- Research, pitch, and write 2600- to 3000-word articles within one week to one-day turnaround (depending on the article’s timeliness).
- Ensure content follows our style guide, editorial strategy, and publishing standards.
- Contribute content that aligns with The Takeout’s mission to share gourmet and everyday food experiences.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay: 8 cents per word, with reliable payments twice a month.

Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of professional writing or editing experience, preferably with food-related content.
- Experience working with a content management system (CMS).
- Familiarity with the Associated Press Stylebook.
- Strong research skills and the ability to write in-depth, feature-style articles.
- No AI-generated content will be accepted during the hiring process.
