Job Description/ Overview
University College Dublin (UCD) is inviting applications for a Technical Officer role in the School of Veterinary Medicine/Herd Health and Animal Husbandry Section. The role is pivotal in providing technical, training, and administrative support to the section’s research and teaching activities. This position will be based equally between UCD Lyons Farm and/or UCD Belfield.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in research activities such as:
Hormone/metabolite analyses.
Feed analysis and herd health data entry.
Support teaching activities, including:
Large animal handling (e.g., cattle, sheep, horses).
Laboratory and practical sessions on nutrition and reproduction.
Online and conventional teaching tools and methods.
Take the lead in providing technical support in all section activities.
Qualifications
Training and qualifications in endocrinology (e.g., hormone and metabolite analyses).
Proven technical expertise in relevant fields.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Experience with large animal handling (e.g., cattle, sheep, horses).
Proficiency in computer-based teaching and research tools.
Experience
Relevant laboratory and field experience in veterinary medicine or related areas.
Familiarity with research and teaching environments in veterinary or animal sciences.
Skills
Initiative and a strong work ethic.
Attention to detail and ability to manage diverse tasks.
Collaboration and interpersonal skills for working with faculty, students, and animals.
Salary
€45,793 – €60,117 per annum
(Appointment will adhere to Department of Finance guidelines).
