Job Description/ Overview
Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is seeking a Senior Healthcare Support Worker to join the Ophthalmology Outpatients Department at Maidstone Hospital. This permanent part-time role (22.5 hours per week) offers a chance to develop new skills in a specialty department supported by a friendly, multidisciplinary team.
The role involves delivering person-centered care under the supervision of a Registered Practitioner and contributing to the holistic care of patients within a six-day shift pattern. Occasional cross-site and rotational shifts may be required.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver delegated clinical and non-clinical activities under the supervision of a Registered Practitioner.
Provide support for the multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality care.
Monitor and identify signs of patient deterioration and escalate concerns promptly.
Qualifications
Essential:
The Care Certificate.
NVQ/QCF Diploma Level 3 in Healthcare or a Level 3 Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship.
Functional skills in English and Maths at Level 2 or equivalent (GCSE Grades A*/9 – C/4).

£24,071 – £25,674 per annum (pro-rata)
Knowledge and Skills
Essential:
Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers.
Insight into delivering high-quality patient care.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Basic ICT skills and ability to prioritize workload with supervision.
Desirable:
Familiarity with ophthalmic-specific competencies such as Visual Acuity, IOP, OCT, and more.
Awareness of current healthcare issues.
