Job Description/Overview
The University of Eastern Finland (UEF) invites applications for a Doctoral Researcher position in Process Modelling. This role is based in the Department of Environmental and Biological Sciences on the Kuopio campus. The successful candidate will conduct research on numerical simulations and parameter inference of environmentally relevant processes such as the methane and nitrogen cycle and greenhouse gas emissions.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and apply numerical models for microbial biomass dynamics, chemical reactions, and gas transport in soil environments.
Conduct research for a doctoral dissertation and pursue postgraduate studies.
Prepare research articles and reports.
Participate in grant applications, scientific collaborations, and supervision of students.
Teach in areas relevant to the research.
Qualifications
Required:
Degree in physics, mathematics, environmental sciences, or a related field.
Eligibility to apply for the LUMETO Doctoral Programme.
Proficiency in written and spoken English.
Programming skills and experience in numerical simulations.
Preferred:
Experience in parameter inference in numerical simulations.
Knowledge of biogeochemistry, environmental chemistry, soil physics, hydrology, and stable isotopes.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Skills
Numerical simulation and programming expertise.
Scientific writing and research skills.
Ability to work in international and multidisciplinary teams.
