The Opportunity
We are seeking an Executive Director to lead the establishment of the UNSW Public Policy Institute in Canberra, a flagship initiative that enhances UNSW’s presence in the national capital. Reporting to the Rector and Dean of UNSW Canberra, you will spearhead the Institute’s strategic planning and direction while engaging with government, industry, and community stakeholders. This is a pivotal leadership role that will position the Institute and UNSW as key players in public policy expertise, education, and partnership.
Located at UNSW’s Canberra site, which will be redeveloped as a new campus, the Institute aims to deliver impactful research and education in areas critical to the ACT community and partners in government, Defence, and industry.

Who You Are (Skills and Experience)
The ideal candidate will have:
- A tertiary qualification with relevant experience or equivalent competence through education, training, and experience.
- An outstanding record of leadership and achievement in public policy, in public service, research, or as an elected representative.
- A nationally recognised profile with extensive networks across public policy practitioners.
- A demonstrated record of leading collaborative initiatives in complex organisations.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and convene diverse groups.
