Job Description/Overview:
The Occupational Therapy Assistant will work alongside qualified Occupational Therapy (OT) staff to coordinate the daily operations of the OT service. This role involves contributing to OT service planning, supporting the OT team, and leading the implementation of appropriate strategies. The position also includes developing specialised knowledge in child and adolescent mental health, educating others, and maintaining strong connections with community resources to support patients in their discharge planning.
Key Responsibilities:
– Attend daily Unit huddles and plan the day with the OT Team
– Support young people alongside Education staff
– Organise, plan, and run sessions and therapeutic activities
– Complete administrative duties satisfactorily
– Order provisions, resources, and items for activities
– Conduct community assessments, shopping, and observations
– Work creatively and adaptively with young people
– Be interactive, approachable, and dynamic
– Show initiative
Qualifications:
– Fluent in both oral and written English
– Group work experience or training
– GCSE level or equivalent in English
Experience:
– Essential: Experience working with young people or adults with mental health difficulties, note-keeping, and facilitating therapeutic groups
– Desirable: Experience working with young people/adolescents in a therapeutic environment and in an in-patient setting
Skills:
– Essential: Knowledge of College of OT standards of practice, clinical skills, ability to engage young people, build therapeutic relationships, and maintain professional boundaries, excellent time management
– Desirable: Excellent IT skills for group work, note keeping, presentations, and minute taking
