Job Description/Overview:

The Program Support Assistant provides administrative support within the US Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service. This role involves a variety of tasks including fiscal management, procurement, timekeeping, and providing technical guidance to staff. The position requires adherence to federal regulations and the ability to manage shifting priorities in a professional setting.

 

Key Responsibilities:

– Review historical data and collect information using cost-benefit analysis techniques

– Track employee hours, prepare budget estimates, and manage salary and benefit reports

– Create procurement documents and manage office supplies

– Prepare forms, manage office calendars, and maintain an inventory of property

– Handle purchase card accounts and reconcile transactions

– Administer new employee orientation and assist with personnel forms and training

– Provide technical guidance on recruitment procedures, performance appraisals, and more

– Disseminate travel information and provide training on travel policies

 

Qualifications needed:

– Must be a US Citizen or US National

– Valid state driver’s license

– Subject to background investigation and fingerprint check

– Compliance with Selective Service registration (if applicable)

– Successful completion of a probationary period

– Participation in Continuous Vetting for federal employees

 

Experience:

– One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 level, including administrative tasks, customer communication, research, and report preparation

– OR 4 years above high school, with education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying)

 

Skills:

– Accountability, attention to detail, customer service, decision making, and flexibility

– Integrity, interpersonal skills, learning, reading comprehension, reasoning, self-management, stress tolerance, and teamwork
