Job Description/Overview:
As a Nursing Unit Assistant in the Pre-surgical department at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, you will perform various clerical duties essential to the operation of a patient/resident care area. Your responsibilities will include processing physician orders, acting as a communication link for the unit, scheduling and coordinating patient appointments, and maintaining patient records. You will also handle clerical tasks like keyboarding, data entry, and maintaining unit supply levels. Additionally, you’ll observe patient call signals and relay messages to the appropriate personnel.
Key Responsibilities:
– Prioritizing, processing, coordinating, and transcribing physician orders
– Acting as a communication link for the unit
– Scheduling, booking, and coordinating patient/resident appointments
– Assembling and maintaining patient/resident charts
– Clerical duties: data entry, filing, compiling statistics, and maintaining supply levels
– Maintaining timekeeping records for regular and relief staff
– Observing patient call signals and relaying messages
Qualifications needed:
– Completion of Grade 12
– Medical terminology knowledge
– Graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program
– One year’s recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
– Current Typing Test of 40 wpm or greater (completed within the past 48 months from a recognized institution)
Skills:
– Effective verbal and written communication
– Ability to work effectively with others
– Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
– Keyboarding skills of 40 w.p.m.
– Organizational skills
– Proficiency with related equipment and various computer software applications
