Job Description/Overview:
Visiting Angels works hard to match a Companion Caregiver with clients who are compatible with their skill level and personality, and we schedule our caregivers for as many or as few hours as they desire. Our caregivers are recognized for their work regularly, and we offer shift bonuses for fill-in work.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Companionship: Engage clients in conversation, activities, and hobbies to alleviate loneliness and enhance their emotional well-being.
- Assist with Daily Living Activities: Help with non-medical tasks such as dressing, grooming, and bathing, while respecting the client’s independence and preferences.
- Meal Preparation: Prepare and serve meals according to the client’s dietary needs and preferences, ensuring they have access to nutritious food.
- Light Housekeeping: Perform basic cleaning tasks, such as tidying up, laundry, and organizing, to maintain a comfortable living environment for the client.
- Medication Reminders: Remind clients to take their prescribed medications on schedule and assist with managing their medication routine.
- Accompany to Appointments: Escort clients to medical appointments, social events, or errands, ensuring they reach their destinations safely.
- Monitor Well-being: Observe the client’s physical and emotional condition, reporting any significant changes to family members or healthcare professionals.
- Engage in Recreational Activities: Plan and participate in activities that stimulate the client’s mental and physical health, such as games, walks, or reading.
- Safety Supervision: Ensure the client’s safety within their home by preventing falls, managing potential hazards, and being alert to emergency situations.
- Emotional Support: Provide empathetic listening, encouragement, and reassurance, helping the client navigate challenges and maintain a positive outlook.
Qualifications needed
- Minimum of one year experience in-home care (professional or private)
- Must be 18 years old and able to work legally in the US
- Fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19 with shot record
- Valid driver’s license and clean DMV record
- Must have reliable transportation
- Excellent communication skills – bilingual and multilingual caregivers welcomed
- Must be able to use a smartphone for electronic visit verification (EVV) and caregiver notes
- Ability to pass extensive background checks, including Live Scan fingerprinting
- Have a negative TB screening within the last 90 days
- Registered on the California Home Care Aide Registry
- Be compassionate, understanding, flexible, and have a true desire to help other
