Job Description/Overview:
Figma is seeking a highly skilled and experienced machine learning engineer to join the Search team and enhance the search experience for millions of Figma users. This role involves developing early-phase machine learning systems and working closely with cross-functional teams to improve search quality and relevance.
Key Responsibilities:
– Develop early-phase machine learning systems to enhance the search experience.
– Measure and improve search quality and relevance.
– Lead the direction of search quality in partnership with software engineers, product managers, and data scientists.
– Break down search relevance problems into engineering strategies using ML, data analysis, and experimentation design.
– Mentor and champion best practices in data and machine learning.
– Contribute to team growth by improving the hiring process and recruiting strong ML talent.
Qualifications Needed:
– 7+ years of practical/applied experience with ML methodologies, data mining, and statistical modeling.
– Expertise in search indexing, retrieval and ranking systems like Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, personalization, and/or NLP.
– 2+ years of experience in a technical lead capacity in a high-growth environment.
– Proven track record of planning multi-year roadmaps.
– Experience implementing the full lifecycle of early-phase model development.
– Deep product and business knowledge to connect abstract modeling tasks with business value.
– A growth mindset and experience in mentoring and aligning senior engineers.
Experience:
– Practical/applied experience with ML methodologies.
– Experience in search indexing, retrieval, ranking systems, and NLP.
– Experience operating in a technical lead capacity.
