Job Description/Overview
This position is based in the International Centre for Mental Health Social Research (ICMHSR) in the School for Business and Society. The research focuses on social approaches to mental health problems, utilising methods such as non-participant observations and structured interviews. The project, funded by a NIHR Programme Development Grant, aims to explore how to provide mental health services to Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller (GRT) communities. The Research Associate will work closely with Dr. Laura Tucker, engaging with community members, supporting peer researchers, and co-designing mental health approaches with community organisations.
Key Responsibilities
– Build relationships with GRT community members and researchers
– Facilitate community engagement and support peer researchers
– Assist in community consultation and co-design of mental health support approaches
– Collaborate with two GRT community organisations to implement and evaluate mental health service strategies
Qualifications
– Knowledge of applied mental health social research
– Understanding of various research techniques and methodologies
Experience
– Experience working with marginalised or disadvantaged groups
– Proven track record of conducting independent and collaborative research
Skills
– Strong communication skills for engaging a wide audience
– Ability to engage effectively both orally and in writing using different media
Position :Part-time (Fixed term until 28 February 2026)
