Job Description/Overview:
The Farm Operations Manager is responsible for a wide variety of tasks on the farm. The ideal candidate will work closely with the farm owners to ensure the day to day needs of the farm are met.
Responsible for all aspects of sales staff including:
Key Responsibilities
Farm Stands and Farmers’ Markets:
- Ensuring stands are staffed each day
- Ensuring money floats are prepared daily in season
- Deconstructing and reviewing stand boards daily
- Ensuring staff has all necessary items needed for their location
- Creating price cards, collecting online market orders, planning items to go to market, assigning jobs to other staff to aid in packing markets, and packing market items for delivery trucks.
Planning crops:
- Working with the owners to order/purchasing seeds
- Create, update and maintain greenhouse planting schedule and spreadsheet
- Updating harvest calendars
- Communicate with seed sales reps
Inventory and Ordering products:
- Ordering various baked goods (e.g. jams, pies, eggs) and special items not grown at our farm
- Seeds and strawberry plants
- Packaging supplies
- Office supplies
- Traceability supplies
- Finding and communicating with distributors to order supplies
- Aid in setting prices on resale products
- Repackaging products when needed
Snow routes and clients:
- Communicating with clients, including sending and receiving contracts and collecting payments
- Marketing/ advertising
- Orchestrating marking, marking laneways
- Hiring operators
- Organizing and restocking tool totes for tractors
- Backup operator when one of our snow removal operators is away.
Insurance:
- Ensuring vehicles are taken off the road in a timely manner
- Reinstating insurance when needed
- Reviewing insurance policies for accuracy
- Communicating with insurance providers
Technical writing:
- Grant writing (Canada summer jobs)
- Assist in writing government applications for LMIA for SAWP workers, TFWs
- Canada Gap food safety certification
Chemicals:
- Inventorying chemicals
- Creating a spreadsheet for all chemicals on the farm and used on the farm to explain their class, pest control, and group rating and what amount we have in stock. Knowing how many chemicals we use on the farm, ordering correct chemicals, researching new chemicals, reviewing government websites for assistance on chemicals to utilize, reviewing spray books to better understand chemicals used on the farm.
Marketing and Social Media:
- Contact past clients about upcoming sales
- Design and order new marketing tools as needed
- Manage all social media accounts (planning, implementing and scheduling content posts
- Manage newsletter
- Utilizing canva (creative platform) to make content more attractive, scheduling posts
Billing:
- Utilizing Quick Books to construct and send invoices to snow customers for products and services as well as farm customers.
Local line:
- Monitor and upload products to the platform
- Create descriptions and pictures individualized to each product.
Qualifications needed
- Class Canadian Driver’s license (required)
Experience:
- people management: 1 year (required)
- Microsoft Office: 1 year (required)
- QuickBooks: 1 year (preferred)
- Google Docs: 1 year (preferred)
- Social media management: 2 years (required)
Skills:
- English (required)
