We are looking for a diligent and adaptable Copy Editor – Fact Checker to join our fast-paced, growing team.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Copy Editor – Fact Checker, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of content. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing, editing, and fact-checking breaking reports, commentary, and analysis.
- Correcting grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors.
- Verifying names, places, dates, statistics, and quotes.
- Enhancing articles with supplemental information.
- Providing feedback and suggestions to reporters.
- Writing and contributing to headlines, as well as assigning articles to reporters.
- Ensuring adherence to journalistic ethics and style guidelines (AP style).
- Updating the front page of the website with fresh content.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong understanding of AP style and journalism ethics.
- Ability to write SEO-friendly headlines and a basic understanding of SEO best practices.
- Knowledge of Google search engines and basic social media.
- Familiarity with news topics such as business, politics, sports, and entertainment.
- Excellent grammatical, spelling, and proofreading skills.
- Previous news editing experience is preferred, but promising entry-level candidates are welcome to apply.
- A college degree in journalism, English, or a related field is preferred.
- Based in the New York area, but we are open to candidates who can work remotely.
