Job Description/Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and experienced Special Needs Nanny to provide dedicated care for our child(ren) with special needs. The ideal candidate will have a background in working with children with disabilities or developmental challenges and will be able to create a nurturing, safe, and supportive environment that meets the unique needs of the child(ren).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide attentive, individualized care to the child(ren) with special needs, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
- Implement therapy exercises, developmental activities, and learning programs as directed by the child’s care team (e.g., physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists).
- Assist with daily routines, including feeding, dressing, bathing, and toileting, with sensitivity to the child’s specific needs.
- Administer medications and monitor for any signs of medical distress, as directed by healthcare professionals.
- Prepare specialized meals and snacks that align with the child’s dietary requirements.
- Foster social and emotional development through therapeutic play and activities.
- Communicate regularly with parents, therapists, and teachers to ensure consistency in care and to provide updates on progress and concerns.
- Assist with transportation to and from school, therapy sessions, and other appointments, ensuring that mobility aids or special equipment are properly used.
- Manage routines around naptime, bedtime, and other daily schedules.
- Perform light housekeeping duties related to the child(ren), such as laundry, organizing toys, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.
- Follow and respect the family’s guidelines for behavior management and care routines.
Qualifications needed
BA/BS college degree | AA in related field of study
CPR/First Aid Certification (renew as needed)
Ability to make a one-year commitment unless applying for a temporary position
A passion for working with children
Two+ years childcare experience
Excellent work and personal references
U.S. driver’s license (this does not apply to NYC residents)
Complete Stop the Silence Training upon Membership
Fluent in English/Bilingual a plus
Competent swimmer
Non-smoker
Willing to go through extensive Background Check
Must be Live-Scanned and registered with Trustline if CA resident
Willingness to show proof of immunizations
No-cell phone driving signed guarantee
